Happy Saturday! Today I am grateful for friends with open minds.

Here are edited quotes by two of my dearest friends, both of whom I've never met in person! I think you will see from their quotes why I love and admire them so much.

"Most everyone['s computer] runs on Windows software - very aptly named when we consider how easy it is these days to have a glimpse of other cultures, other religions, other ideas and gain new understanding and perspective. We have the ability to open a window into the ideas and beliefs of so many different peoples. How fabulous, particularly for those trying to raise children in rural areas where the population has very few differences. Thanks to all these windows, our children don't have to grow up and leave home only to have serious culture shock! They can actually go out into the world with a well-rounded understanding and awareness of the entirety of the human condition.

"My favorite quote regarding understanding (I don't like *tolerance* - I don't believe we should tolerate others' beliefs and ideas - I think we should embrace them, enjoy them, appreciate them, or at the very least, try to understand them or the roots of such beliefs even if we don't agree with those beliefs, even if we deplore them) is from Edgar Cayce who stated, 'We all share the same ideal. We just have different ideas on how to achieve that ideal.'" ~ L.

"Sometimes I find that people who aren't totally comfortable in their own chosen paths are the first to criticize others for theirs. I guess my faith guides me in believing that LOVE is the only true religion. There are many things that are wrong in [my] Catholic Church, but many of the rules and regulationss of churches are man-made.

"All religions of the world subscribe to the philosophy of love. And to 'turn a deaf ear' to someone's beliefs is not practicing tolerance. It shows ignorance.... I think that as a family, we need to embrace each other's differences!" ~ K.

Today I hope to emulate these wise friends of mine, and to try to not only tolerate others' beliefs, but to also embrace them. That doesn't just go for others' religious beliefs, but their politics and their lifestyles as well. I hope I will learn and grow as a Human Being from this practice.

Today I'm thankful for people who don't judge us by our limitations, and for fortuitously found objects.

My best friend, Dianna, and my husband, Jeff.

Some days it's hard for me to get about. But Di called this morning and said, "Just meet us for dim sum - it doesn't matter if you just sit there like a lump and don't converse." You gotta' love people who don't mind when you're feeling lumpy, and who like your company anyway.

Di doesn't even mind bike riding with me at 3 mph, even though she does mountain bike races!

We ended up having a really good time and eating way too many shrimp dumplings... and the waitress (probably impressed by all we'd ordered) made us some free pot stickers - yum!

Flip-N-Tell Easel, L: Closed, R: Open, standing on base.

I had to stop at Kinko's on the way back, and there I found this neat-o pattern easel. It will be great to hold and store my knitting patterns so they don't fly all over the place, and stand them up so they're easy to read while I work.

It folds up into a little, flat package, seals with Velcro, and has lots of plastic sections to insert pattern pages. It is called a Lion Flip-N-Tell Display Book-N-Easel, part number 39009, and was about $13.

I love it when you find something helpful and cool, and you weren't even looking for it in the first place!

The round things in the cup behind the assembled easel are some of my spindles for hand-spinning wool into yarn.

Welcome! Today I'm grateful for summer's bounty.

Our perennial garden and bright bee flag. I like to change the flags to celebrate the seasons and holidays, to give passers-by a little smile and something to look forward to.
