Halleluia!

My sister's afghan is finished!

Val approves.

Here's the rug I was trying to match:

My English plum pudding came out so well that certain gentlemen ate three servings each. They know who they are... Jeff found the lucky sixpence - how could he not? He had triple the chances of the others!

All in all, a great holiday... and the weekend's just beginning. Hope yours is fabulous!

UPDATED AT END

Patience, Patience

I finished the squares for my sister's Lion Brand Homespun Winter Nights afghan (free pattern at the Lion Brand site). I have been seaming them together. Did I mention, I hate seaming?

I vow never, ever to make another afghan that isn't knit modularly together as I go. This part of the process hasn't been fun, and there's still a lot left (that's only half the afghan in the photo, and that part isn't even halfway seamed!) I'm trying to have patience with it.

To give myself something to look forward to, I've begun swatching for a Noro Kureyon moebius (color #55):

The yarn is from Carodan Farm whose personal service and quick, inexpensive shipping I can confidently recommend!

I'm not a big swatcher, but I'm glad I was patient and tried it this time. I decided this drop-stitch/garter pattern isn't going to work, as it's too open and the resulting fabric won't provide enough warmth when worn.

I've decided to do a pattern of modular diamonds instead. I think they'll show off the color variations in the yarn well; will enable me to make the moebius without having to worry about the two ends being at the same color repeat for seaming; and will enable me to knit the thing all in garter stitch - important as my hands have now apparently stopped working for the winter months! (Grrrr... pass the Motrin! Cashmere-blend wrist warmers are next on my agenda!)

And what has Jeff been up to? Why, re-starting the Meadowview Mini-Micro Brewery!

Everyone will have to wait patiently to try his Olde American Coriander Ale which will be ready at New Year's.

I have been working on having patience while my kitchen is filled with buckets, hoses, thermometers, and beer bottles every weekend... especially because I don't drink beer!

After a rather hectic weekend, today will be spent swatching, reading "Cecilia" by Fanny Burney (great so far - if you like Jane Austen, you'll like Fanny Burney), and patiently watching outside:

I'm trying to trap one of our three squirrels as he needs to go to the Wildlife In Need Center to get rid of some mites. We'll release him back here as soon as he's fixed up.

We had an opossum here the other night. He ate some leftover squash we'd put outside. It was neat to see him. Strange animals...

The "S" List

Looking for some last-minute holiday gifts? I recommend the following:

Books:
Year Of Wonders
The Virgin Blue
Girl With A Pearl Earring
Tulip Fever
Girl In Hyacinth Blue
The Confession Of Brother Haluin (a Brother Cadfael mystery)

Movie:
"Uncorked" - life-affirming, awakening, beautifully filmed, centering, intelligently funny.

Wine:
You can't beat the Australian wines from Yellowtail. They are incredibly inexpensive and remarkably good. The labels are eye-catching, too. Even picky Jeff likes these as go-with-just-about-everything, regular-dinner wines. Did I mention they are cheap?

Have fun with your last-minute shopping!

What's wrong with this picture?

Looks like we'll have to try something else...
