What I'm Laughing At

"Though he might have been more humble, there's no police like Holmes." ~ James Joyce

Barnes & Noble has "The Complete Sherlock Holmes", Volumes I and II, reissued at a very affordable prices. There's nothing as cozy as sitting in front of the fireplace on a winter night, drinking tea, and reading about foggy, Victorian London. Unless it's drinking a Hot Toddy instead!

    Hot Toddy
    1 c. milk
    2 tsp. brown sugar
    rum
    grated nutmeg
    Heat it up a little.
Get your jammies on before you drink it.

Thanks to Veryl for the recipe, if I remember correctly!

What I'm Reading

"Crafts For The Spirit: 30 Beautiful Projects to Enhance Your Personal Journey", Lark Books.

"These 30 unique crafts, inspired by a variety of cultures and shown in lovely color photographs, are more than just beautiful to look at: they combine spirituality with creativity, and promote peace, harmony, and personal well-being."

I think I've finally found, here, how to make my own "Wish Candle" holder! Some very neat things and definitely worth a peek! (Katrina, just to give you job security, I paid full price at B&N!)

Up next: Annie Proulx's "The Shipping News".

What I'm Listening To

Canadian artists Trio Nort

"Passionate music performed on Spanish guitar, Gypsy violin, and Tango accordion is unforgettable. Trio Nort blends the heat of classical Flamenco sound, the joy of Latin rhythms, the vivacity of Klezmer and the great styling of jazz."

Music that makes your heart want to sing. It'll have your feet itching to dance around your living room. Even the CD cover is uplifting and beautiful!

Marquis Classics, a fun label featuring unusual Canadian performers, ships fast, so order today to make someone really happy for the holidays! You, perhaps?

What I'm Working On

I finished my second pair of Felted Lopi slippers (Reynolds Felted Lopi pattern 82210). I did these in garter stitch instead of stockinette as the pattern indicated; I think it made them shrink a bit more... but that could have been the different yarn color, too - as Bev Galeskas says in her "Felted Knits" book (good book!), felting is an art and not a science! But the garter stitch made seaming the inside and outside soles a lot faster for me.

I did this pair of slippers with the optional ankles, but not with the optional elf points on top of the ankles. That might be fun for the next pair, but I'd like to figure out how to do a curled-up toe, first.

From this...

...to this, in just one wash and rinse!
The ruler end is right at the sole's heel.

I do wish there was some way to do these toe-up, with no seaming - even with the double-thick soles. My mind will have to play around with it as I experiment more with felting - in the meantime, more Kureyon is on its way for more Boogas!

What I Want To Be Working On

Another Booga Bag, or Karen Baumer's Multidirectional Diagonal Scarf, a la Wendy. But I can't until I finish the Lion Brand Homespun afghan for my sister (blech! Thoroughly tired of it now!), and some handknit socks that my dad has just requested for Christmas. There oughtta be a law...

Who I Wish I Was...

You can tell a lot about a person by their Amazon.com Wish List. Take Kary's, for instance... doesn't it just make you want to road trip out to Boston to sit and knit a while with her?
