Speed Demon

Lest you think my new Knitter's Loom is going to end up out in storage in the barn, with the Big Scary Looms...

Emma and Val Snoozing
(The ugly chair is inherited; we've
never bought new stuff, as we've always had dogs
and they've all loved that chair!)

What a lovely way to spend an afternoon - the pups snoring away, a toasty fire crackling nearby, DH out freezing his behind off in a deer blind, and a warp that goes on in minutes, not hours (like on the Big Scary Looms, which require a crazy warping board and calculations that make me nuts!)

All warped up and ready to go. The yarn is Noro Silk Garden. I don't know the color number, because Emma chewed up the ballband. Warping this loom might be fast, but Emma's teeth are faster than anything. She is like some kind of toothy superhero... Dogzilla, ready to gnaw craft supplies to smithereens in seconds! (Val calls her an interloper. Tori calls her "Jaws". They are both so very patient.)

And a very short and relaxing time later, we have:

Tori Recovering From A Day With Emma Ignoring The Excitement

Et voila! C'est finis!

Husbands, Take Note

Gentlemen, when your wives have an emergency situation with a dog-destroyed doublepoint, and they ask you to please stop at the LYS to pick up a replacement, you have two options.

The first is to go along and do it; your wife will call ahead, the item will be waiting at the counter, the staff will oooh and aaah about what a sweetie pie you are, and you'll be rewarded with a big smile when you get home.

The second option is to say, "I'm waaaay too busy being Mr. Important in a suit to stop in there, even though I drive right by; why don't you just go out in the icky weather and drive all the way into the city - in-between following the puppy around all day to keep the cat out of its mouth, wallowing in mud to refill the water for the chickens I wanted now rather than in the spring, and finding all my packed-away stuff for deer hunting - which, by the way, opens tomorrow... so remember, you'll be on your own for the weekend with the dogs, ducks, and geese."

If your wife is like me, she will not respond to the latter choice with anger. She will say, "Why sure, honey, what a great idea!"

...and will come home with not only the replacement knitting needles (which would have cost you, Mr. Wonderful, less than $10), but perhaps all of this:

Loot a la Yellow Dog Knitting, Eau Claire, WI

The gals at Yellow Dog Knitting were wonderfully helpful. I got to meet longtime online pal Sue there, quite by fortuitous accident, and was introduced to Cindy and Dixie who welcomed me to the area and promised to visit Tuppinz Farm soon. They're all very fun and creative people, and I can't wait to visit with them again at Knit Night at Borders this week!

When we got the "Emba Doba", my father-in-law said, "You don't want to rescue a Doberman! They're mean, vicious dogs!"

Vicious Emma Beastie By Fire

Yeah... right. Mean. Vicious. Ferocious. And I've got the dog spit constantly all over my face from her kisses to prove it.

Off to play with yarns and a wonderfully small (and manageable - and foldable!) loom in front of the fire, while DH sits in a tiny tent on a windy hilltop at 4 a.m. in the freezing cold. (Serves him right.)

Today At Tuppinz...

...we find:

Lots of ugly mud, and no more "front yard", due to the new well digging. You'd think the contractors would have checked to see that we had an extra electric circuit available for the pump before they put the whole thing in, but they didn't (and we didn't);

Broken Brittanys thanks to a teething Doberman (socks are in Noro Kureyon, yarn is from Yellow Dog Knitting);

A "male and female" pair of Toulouse geese, which have turned out to be a "male and male" instead.

We got eight to ten inches of snow in about two hours this past weekend, but most of it has melted now. I'm about to rename the place "Bleak House".

Well, there's a fire in the fireplace, and there are more knitting needles - somewhere, so I'm off to knit for a bit. That ought to cheer me up! If that doesn't, this usually does:

Fun Stuff

Yippee! Lookie what I got!

Thanks, Carrie Anne! Was anyone else a teenager in the 80s, and do you remember the pins we used to collect? The Who, The Mods... I wanted to be a Mod because, of course, Sting was a mod... Anything with a Union Jack on it, and I was in heaven. I'll be wearing this to a fibery get-together this week - I'm venturing out to meet some of the locals (hi Sue and Dianne!)

Have you seen the latest issue of The Wheel? There's so much inspiring stuff in here, I may just get a loom out of the barn! Great issue.

Our friends Deloras and Dave - the breeders of our Jacob ewe lambs - came for dinner the other night. What was on the menu? Um... Jacob lamb, Indian style (Chef Jeff excelled, as usual!) Deloras brought some pics of some of her felted masks, as I'd asked her if I could share them with you. These are made with wool from her Jacob and Navajo-Churro sheep:

You should see her rugs! She does offer her wares for sale - if interested, email me and I'll put you in touch with her. She also has rare breed handspun yarn and fiber available.

We have one duck that consistently lays double-yolk eggs. Here is one, compared with a standard duck egg:

The ducks are such prolific layers that I've taken to pawning dozens off on the UPS man when he makes deliveries. They taste just like chicken (eggs).

... unless she is in the middle:

Did you see what Claudia got???

Have a great day!
