A Silly Mistake
What's wrong with this picture?
I oiled and assembled the stand for my Ashford Rigid Heddle Loom. The assembly was easy as pie with Ashford's illustrated instructions. Unfortunately, I neglected to remember that I have the 24" loom when I ordered the 32" stand!
I wrote to Ashford and hopefully they'll be able to sell me the two shorter crosspieces I'd need to convert the stand to a 24" one. Positive thoughts that they'll be able to do it would be very welcome at this time!
Can you say, "DUH!"? Go ahead, say it!
What I've Been Up To...
The Treenway Silks scarf kit is threaded on the Ashford 4-shaft (soon to be 8) table loom! Can weaving be far behind? I sure hope not - I've had the kit for over a year! Sleying and threading are the hard parts of weaving for me; the rest should be a piece of cake.
The Patons Kroy heart sox are almost finished. I did some staggered ribbing at the ankle, and a two-color band near the top. I have to re-do the very top band of ribbing, but I'm almost finished with them. Just in time for Valentine's Day!
This is my Cottage Creations Rambling Rows afghan (so far). It is already almost as wide as the piano... and this is not even the entire width of the piece! On the upper right is the section I'm currently doing, on a circular needle. There are only a few stitches on the needles at a time, so it's not hard on one's wrists or hands. It's so much fun! Totally mindless, all in garter-stitch. The extra skein of light purple in front is the fifth color that I'll be incorporating.
Reading...
I finished reading "A Prayer For Owen Meany" and it was nothing at all like the film "suggested by" it - "Simon Birch". The film was good, but the book was incredible. I didn't like it at first but I couldn't put it down and finished it very quickly, and the things I didn't think I liked were all tied into the ending. It was crass in parts, but not awful, and it was terribly funny and heartbreaking in other sections. On the whole, it was very spiritually uplifting. I would place it in my favorite 20 books of all time, and I'm glad that I "had" to read it for book group, because otherwise I wouldn't have picked it up.
Next: Homer's "The Odyssey" in a new tranlation... yikes! Now there's something I certainly wouldn't read if I didn't have to! But I think it's important to expand my horizons.
Grateful For...
My favorite television show of all time is an Irish program called "Ballykissangel". It's a BBC comedy-drama that takes place in a small Irish town, centered around Fitzgerald's Pub - but it's not in the least "old-fashioned."
I became addicted to it - it was my weekly ritual - and I taped the last couple of seasons. But I'd never seen the first season, and never thought to tape the ones in the middle, before I was truly engrossed and knew what was taking place in the lives of the characters.
Well, I am pleased to report that our local PBS station is re-running the first season this year! So Tuesday nights will find me ensconced on the couch, with my knitting and a Scotch-and-ginger-ale near at hand (my BallyK ritual imbibement).
I hope they'll re-run all the episodes so I can get them all taped. Hope you can catch the program, too! It's funny as heck, when it's not making you cry...
Some Business...
In the next couple of months, I hope to finish ICanSpin.com. When I've finished it, the lovely Nan will be taking it over. Right now, all of my photos for this Blog are stored on that site, and I'll have to take them off, and I won't have anyplace else to keep photos, as my Earthlink account is "full" of things like my SpinLinks and KnitLinks and Beekeeping pages. So... once I turn that over, I'll be discontinuing Stasia's Place Of Grace.
In the meantime, won't you please leave a note in my TAG board on the right, so I know you stopped by? Let's make the most of the months we still have!
Our Snowdrops have already poked their green tips up through the soil (that's why we affectionately call them "Snow-pops!")... so spring can't be all that far away... something else to look forward to! Have a wonderful week!
