Grateful For...
First, two major things: Jeff had a good spinal tap today, with no headache. The results will be in next week. Second, the baby bluebirds have hatched! It's too cold to take a picture, but I'll do so as soon as possible.
Now, onto fibery things...
Not just yarn shopping, but actually making something with my purchased yarn. Yes, I really do sometimes make things!
This is the Shape It! Scarf from Sally Melville's "The Knit Stitch" graciously modeled by a sleepy Valentine:
Scarf Knit In Berroco Glace "Denim Degrade"
It was easy and fun to make and looks and drapes well when worn. I'll be making more...
I am not the only one making things... check out this awesome "Wine-o Bee" made by Kary, and sent to Jeff in a "Bee Well!" care package! Thanks, Kary! That gal is so talented!
Thinking Pink!
This gorgeous Pink Ivory and Ebony Emily spindle was a gift from Adam Mielke of Mielkes' Farm today. It is beautiful and very rare! Can you believe that is the natural color of the wood? Thank you, Adam!
And what else did Adam bring with him? My new loom!!! Adam and I traded - my Honda motorcycle for his sister's Schacht loom. (I wonder if Andrea got anything out of the deal?)
Feathered Friends
I kept hearing a "KNOCK-KNOCK-KNOCK" in our woods, but it was LOUDER than the average woodpecker. After hunting around, Jeff and I found that the noise was coming from within the Flicker nestbox Jeff had made and hung high in a tree. And who should appear today? A Flicker! Hopefully she's nesting and not just eating insects...
The Ingenuity Of Mother Nature...
This is a really smart plant. If you were a plant, wouldn't you want your babies to grow up near you, so you'd know the soil was healthy? Wouldn't you want to place them securely in the ground and not just let them blow away? Wouldn't you want to protect them until the time was ripe for them to be placed in the dirt? Apparently, this snowdrop agrees:
...And Her Beauty
I love the slanting sun you get at dusk on spring and late summer evenings. It's impossible to accurately capture on film... it is a magical moment, when fireflies seem almost like pixies, when birds are gently tucking their heads beneath their wings, when parents call their children in from play, and the rabbits startle each other while venturing out to graze. I couldn't get it right, but here is a view of our tiny orchard and the wild woods, with the sun slanting through the new, green leaves:
Have a beautiful evening!
