New Stuff
I have to admit, not a whole lot of fibery stuff has been going on here at Meadowview. I've not been well the last couple of months so I've been focusing on self-care and creative inspiration - lots of reading!
But that hasn't stopped me shopping! Retail therapy is good for me and the economy!
I will have to photograph my lovely new Cherry niddy, nostie, and two-spindle set made by Edward Tabachek to show you. It is so neat to have a whole set of fiber tools that match. In fact, I liked them so much, I asked Edward to make me a Cherry plying spindle to complete the set. I'll show you the whole kit and kaboodle when it arrives.
And, my Greensleeves goodies showed up just today. The Lizzie Kate is walnut; the spindles are a couple of Queens' Sceptres, a Loki, and a Mjolinor. Aren't they pretty?
Even if I haven't been doing a lot, the garden sure has - all these were just cut today:
I can hardly believe that I grew them. The "Arizona" rose on the right has an unbelievable scent. The rose next to it is a "Bella'roma".
There is something so great about getting up each day and going out to see what's blooming, especially when you're not feeling yourself... keeps things interesting.
There has been a spot of excitement and joy here, though - we adopted Sherman from the Humane Animal Welfare Society!
Just look at that sweet face! Sherman is an adult male (neutered) champagne hooded rat. He was a stray and was brought into the shelter by some kind soul.
What a cutie. We have him on the recommended diet of Nutro Lite dog food with some nuts, seeds, and dried fruits and vegetables mixed in, but he also likes: Jeff's beef stew, herring, cucumbers, radish greens, radishes, avocado, blueberries, tea with milk, (a drop of) white wine, ham, cheese, and tomatoes. In fact, the only thing he hasn't eaten that we've offered was dill from the garden.
Sherman has been busy exploring:
Then he decided it was time for a nap in his hammock:
Rats make fantastic pets. They're clean, odorless (compared to other small animals), affectionate, intelligent, social, and they enjoy human company. Sherman even gives kisses to us, just like our dogs! There are plenty available for adoption, so check out your local shelter or rat rescue services online before making a trip to the pet store.
A single adult rat needs at least 2' square cage, with multiple levels. Ferret or guinea pig cages will work, but younger rats need cages with bars that are only 1/2" apart. Since rats are social, you might want to adopt a bonded, same-sex pair.
Before adopting a new furry friend, be sure you know the rat facts! For more information, go here or here.
Thanks for stopping by! As soon as I'm more motivated, I'll be more motivational here! I got some yarn out today, and am thinking of knitting and felting a rattie sleeping bag (yes, they use them). I'll let you know how that goes...
Meanwhile, enjoy the last month of summer! Take a day off, walk barefoot in the grass, grill out, watch the fireflies, light a little bonfire, cook marshmallows. Fall isn't far away!
