Tired of swimming in the same old "pool"?

If you've tried handpainted sock yarns, only to have to frog out pooling color patches, you might want to give rigid heddle weaving a try. It's a great fix if you love the artistic color combinations but aren't set on a particular project. Well, not only will you avoid those blobs of color, but you can finish a scarf in a matter of hours.

The yarn I purchased, by The Knotty Sheep, doesn't, in all honesty, pool when knit into socks because the color repeats are nice and short, but it worked up great for my demo anyway...

The colorway is "Mermaids Singing To Starfish". I used the EZ-PZ and super-fast warping method in The Ashford Book Of Rigid Heddle Weaving by Rowena Hart. It took less than 15 minutes!

A short time and some lovely meditative weaving action later, we have this!

Here is a detail of the interesting colorplay that takes place during weaving of this fingering-weight yarn:

I used one skein of the yarn to make this scarf which, when taken off the loom, measures 56" - 68" including the fringe.

Is a Knitter's Loom in your future? (Mine is actually just the Ashford 24" rigid heddle with optional stand. I have two huge looms that I hardly ever use, but this one is so easy that I wove three scarves on it in the last two weeks!)
