UPDATE!
Breaking News - Aromatherapy Spindles!
I just got word about an exciting new development, unique in all of Spindledom! If you're a member of the Spindlers Yahoo! Group, you know that at long last a spindle maker has hearkened to my plea for an aromatherapy spindle. Who rose to the occasion? In just a matter of days?
Click the spindle pics to find out (if you can't already tell from the design):
Prototype 3.5" Butternut Whorl, 2 oz
Prototype 2.75" Cherry Whorl, 1.4 oz.
The shaft on this model does not extend fully into the cup. Instead, the hook has a longer base to make room for more cotton on which to place the oil.
Place your essential oils of choice onto a bit of cotton in the center chamber. As you spin your fiber, the fan blades channel air towards the chamber and on up to surround you in scented bliss. Now spindling can be even more relaxing (or invigorating) as a daily part of meditative self-care!
I can't wait to try out the prototypes - I think they're brilliant! I'll be testing them with a holiday blend of pine, orange, and clove oils. I'm told just three drops is enough to scent the room!
My Midnight Sky Spindle
This is my holiday gift from Chef Jeff. It is amazing and I absolutely adore it.
There was a big tree outside the bedroom of our old house, and there were often owls hoo-hooing in it at night. I love owls and would frequently get out of bed and go to the window to watch them. When we moved here to the farm, I was pleased to find another great big tree just outside our bedroom, and I enjoy seeing the moonlight shining through the branches (we still don't have curtains!)
I had thought the design of this spindle beautiful ever since it came out, and the way it tied together images of the old and new in my life, well, that made me want it all the more.
A quick check with spindling buds - "Is it worth the price?" - resulted in many emphatic "Yes!"-es, and upon seeing a pic of it, Jeff said, "Get it!", so I did.
Boy, am I ever glad! It spins like a dream, and the woodcarving is beautiful on both the front and the back of the whorl. The "grips" in the shaft give me really good "traction" so that I can get the same spinning speed with a finger twist as with a thigh roll without the added effort. I'm spinning foot-long Shrek merino fiber on it now - not an easy feat, but the spindle is making a fantastic laceweight yarn as if by magic. The Goldings also provided wonderful and personal customer service and the spindle was here very quickly. I can't say enough good things about the Goldings and this gift!
Spinning Trivia: The Goldings' son Obe is the banjo-picker in the photo on this page!
My Uniform
Amanda asked about daily uniforms. Here is mine. I just pull it on over whatever I'm wearing whenever I have to go out to the barn to gather eggs or put out hay. I discovered the necessity for Rosie's after getting frustrated at bringing bits of hay into the house all over my CampMor fleece pants and tops (I live in outdoor clothing, inside. It is freezing up here!)
Christmas Music
I found the Christmas CDs - finally - today. They were all in a box right next to my computer, which is what I use to listen to them. How funny that they were right here, all together and waiting for me, rather than in the giant pile of newly-unboxed CDs upstairs. Yay! Whenever I can't find something, I stop looking and ask for guidance instead of driving myself crazy. The lost item always appears within 24 hours. Give it a try! Just like making donations when you feel a financial lack, it is guaranteed to free up the flow of good energy.
There is nothing - and I mean nothing - like listening to "The Holly and the Ivy" by the Choir of St. John's College, Cambridge - I don't care what winter holiday you celebrate. Christmas Carols from St. John's is the best holiday CD, ever. The Magic Of Christmas is a close second. But you can't possibly have Christmas without this.
The Royal Podcast
Listen to the Queen's Christmas message on your iPod!
An Open-Minded Spouse
I don't know many spouses who would not give an immediate "No!" to the idea of this. All he wants to know is, "Is it spinnable?" Be sure to see the baby pics!
Not Fixing Up The House
Today I am grateful that we didn't spend any time painting the house and trying to make it nice when we moved in. I'm glad we focused on the barn and getting the animals established as we did. This, after whining to my husband about the fuchsia paint upstairs for months. Why am I glad about this? Because the house is probably going to have to be torn down. The third architecht and the fifth contractor to tell us so (unasked; thank you very much) were here this week. See? It was good we didn't waste any time and effort on decorating, and I'm glad we heard this before going ahead with replumbing the whole building, as is being required by the State.
Xanax
See paragraph above.
Chestnuts
Having gotten Chef Jeff the gift of a chestnut roaster (the dude is addicted to chestnuts, I tell you, but they keep getting incinerated in the fireplace), I was shocked to discover that all of the chestnuts previously available in food stores had disappeared. Nope, all they have is frozen lutefisk up here. Looking online, all the chestnut growers were sold out! I finally discovered some at Earthy Delights, they shipped them immediately, and the wonderful UPS Guy walked them up the snowy driveway yesterday, just in time. I love the Boys In Brown! I gave him a dozen "Martha Stewart" (Araucana) eggs, but somehow, that sure doesn't seem like enough.
Happy winter holidays to all, and to all, a good night! May you dream of sugarplums and snowy forests; may your plates and hearts be full; may you be cozy and comfortable, now and in the new year. May you see the bright side of any adversity that comes your way, or at least be content in accepting things as they are. Hugs to you and thanks for visiting, for your comments, and for your friendship!
