A World Of Color

I don't know about you, but I often find myself overwhelmed by color choices for things that I would like to wear. Whether I'm trying to choose clothing online or from a catalog, or cosmetics without being able to try them, or yarn with which to make a garment for myself, I always seem to have doubts.

I figured out a simple way to make this easier, and I hope that it might help you as well. I took a photo of my unmakeup-ed self and put it on a white background. I saved it as a .jpg file, so that I can open it in a web browser window. Now I can place this photo next to web images of clothing, makeup, or yarns/fibers I'm considering to see if they will look ok on me.

Please note: This is probably the worst photo I have ever taken. I do not look like an axe murderess in real life, I promise! Ugh!

Hmmm, rose or periwinkle?

Checking lipsticks...

I think this gimmick has already saved me from some unfortunate mistakes. I had to get some new makeup for fall, and for once, all the items look fine on me. This also confirmed that I can trust Clinique's makeup recommendations based on the profile I filled out at their website.

In creative pursuits, I got this bracelet kit from Montana Leather:

It's a bit harder for me to do than I'd anticipated it would be, but still fun. The book is full of projects for other items - belts, horsey-stuff, etc. It was originally published in 1950 and offers lots of instructions for making "cowboy art".

In fiberarts, I am on the first sleeve of my Peace Fleece Everyday Cardi. Still enjoying the "plain" and relaxing knitting, and lovely gray yarn. But am thinking of a ribbed t-neck raglan in Debbie Bliss' Cashmerino Aran... I'll have to use my little head trick to choose a color! I have some balls of this for a baby sweater I'm going to make, and it is lovely stuff and would be great for next-to-skin wear.

I know, I know, I was supposed to be spinning up my Alpine Meadows fiber, from Bountiful, to make the top-down ribbed raglan t-neck... but there is only so much knitting and spinning I can do in a year, and cold weather is a-comin'!

I have fallen in love with Indigo Wild's Zum Oil in the grapefruit scent. Give yourself (or get!) a wonderful massage with this uplifting, joyful, creative scent and you'll be on your way to a merrier day. There is nothing like a quick foot and toe rub to sort you back out when you're out of sorts! This stuff is non-greasy and natural - you'll love it, too.

I had a lovely Labor Day weekend, taking the time to enjoy a Tanqueray and tonic out by the firepit with a lime from my own lime tree (I thought it was a Meyer lemon, but apparently it was mismarked!) A pinyon log (you only need one at a time!) crackled merrily, scenting the cool, evening air. The last of the lightning bugs flashed in and out of the woods, and lazy katydids chirped overhead as bats and dragonflies flew in the darkening sky, searching for their suppers.

Jeff completed some bat boxes, finished painting the house (what a guy!), and had time to make us a lovely dinner of oranic steak and his special garlic carrots, with a Benziger Claret (what a guy again!) We even got to attend a little hunter/jumper horse show which was a lot of fun (and which made me want to ride again... I wonder...)

What a lovely way to honor the transition of one season to the next. I hope your weekend was wonderful, too. Now, let's get ready for Autumn!
