Ceatures Of The Reef Shawl

The Summer Of Lace bug finally bit me in the butt and... well, two years after beginning the Creatures Of The Reef Shawl from Fiddlesticks Knitting, I am pleased to say that is is finished!

Keep in mind - the actual knitting time was about two to three weeks - the rest of the time the project was "aging" in the wool cellar while I was distracted. It feels so good to have completed it.

I am not usually such a sourpuss - it was a looooong day!

Dorothy's patterns are so well-written, and her charts so clear, that jumping right into another is just too tempting. Can you believe that, except for two small, simple scarves in Feather And Fan and Razor Shell, this is my first real lace project? Thanks, Dorothy!

We subscribe to a local organic farm from June through November. Every week, we get a huge box of whatever's in season:

What was included this time? 6 ears of the best sweet corn, 1 yellow squash, 2 zucchini (more were available but frankly, I'm zucchini'd out), 2 melons, yummy cherry tomatoes, 5 regular tomatoes, 2 green peppers, 2 onions, 1 leek, 2 types of salad, 4 cucumbers, a big bag of carrots, and a large bunch of curly parsley. Should I make you really jealous and tell you that we also signed up for artisan bread and organic chickens as well?

The price comes out to less than we'd pay in the grocery store, we save on fuel costs and make fewer shopping trips, the food is of higher quality than stuff that's traveled by truck to the store, we support someone doing a good job for the environment, and we even get to go visit the chickens - what a great deal all around.
